Today's Excursion:
Colmar, France:
This morning, we dock in Breisach. We will drive to the village of Colmar, France, in Alsatian wine country. The principal industry in Colmar is food and wine, but its irresistible charm lies in its beautifully preserved medieval architecture that conjures an idyllic place out of time: colorful half-timbered houses and gardens, rambling cobbled streets, arches and alleys, sculpted fountains, and canals that wind through a corner of town called Little Venice. Aside from its winemaking heritage, Colmar is known as the hometown of Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor who created the Statue of Liberty. A walking tour includes a visit to the Unterlinden Museum, housed in a Gothic convent, whose impressive collection includes Mathias Grünewald's famous Isenheim Altarpiece, paintings, engravings, and sculpture from medieval to modern (including works by Dürer and Holbein, Picasso and Léger), and a wealth of archaeological artifacts; join us for a private reception in the museum, a Tauck Exclusive! After our museum reception, we then return to the MS GRACE to continue our river journey.
Upon our return, enjoy our cooking demonstration, immediately following will be our TD Presentation by, PAUL. Don't miss this presentation that will highlight the wildlife along the river.
This evening after dinner, join us in the Panorama Lounge for dessert followed by our Cruise Director's hilarious interactive trivia on the various types of dances that coincide with the years of Tauck's growing touring business. Great fun to be had for all.
**Please be aware that during various hours of the day and night, the Ships Sun Deck will be closed while we pass under low bridges. Areas you may go will be clearly marked. Thank you for your cooperation in not going to the closed off areas for your safety and enjoyment of our tour.
