Located in southeastern Germany, Passau is a picturesque city that is often referred to as the "City of Three Rivers". Situated at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers, Passau boasts stunning views of the water and is a popular destination for tourists from all around the world.
The confluence of the three rivers is a truly unique sight, as each river has its own distinct color and flow, and when they merge together, it creates a stunning mosaic of blue, green, and brown water. The best way to experience this phenomenon is to take a leisurely boat ride down the rivers and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Passau has a rich history, dating back to the Roman era when it was a major hub for the salt trade. The city's location at the confluence of the rivers made it an ideal location for the transportation of salt, which was a valuable commodity at the time. Passau's salt trade brought great wealth and prosperity to the city, and its influence can still be seen today in the numerous Gothic and Baroque buildings that line the streets.
One of the most famous landmarks in Passau is the St. Stephen's Cathedral, which is home to one of the largest organs in the world. The organ has a total of 17,774 pipes and 233 stops, making it a true masterpiece of engineering and music. The organ can be heard throughout the city during performances, and visitors can also attend concerts to witness its incredible power and beauty.
